Do you have a prelit Christmas tree that you have had in storage and it seems a bit on the dirty side? Many people find that even if they are storing this properly, they may still be contending with a tree that is a bit on the dirty side. They often ask, can you clean this tree? There are several ways that you can make sure that the prelit Christmas tree that you have looks as good today as it did when you purchased it.
The best method is to use a hand vacuum cleaner to remove the dust. You will want to do this gently and make sure to avoid damaging the lights! If your hand vac is strong, then avoid doing this. There are those vacuums out there that are so strong, they can rip the needles out of a tree. You don’t want this to happen!
If you are afraid to vacuum the tree, then why not use a dust rag. However, do not spray any type of dusting solution onto this rag as this can leave a filmy residue on the tree that can break down the plastic in the tree. Instead, a soft dust rag that you can use to lightly dust each branch or the problem spots that you are seeing.
Another option that many people do is to air out this tree on their patio or porch. This will work as long as the weather is not so windy that you are having to constantly pick this tree up from the ground. Remember, if the wind catches the tree and tosses it, it could damage the lights that are on the tree.
For those who have a prelit Christmas tree, they often put this up and then if they do see a speck of dust or dirt, they simply remove this on their own rather than cleaning the tree as a whole. As long as you put this tree into a proper storage box or bag, it should be fine to put up the next year!
Never try to wash the tree with soap or water, as this will damage the lights and the branches. You want to remove the dust, not damage the tree to the point that you need to go out and buy a new one! Be careful and methodical with what you are doing and you will find that the tree will be as beautiful as it was the day that it came out of the box!
